According to reports, Russia could try to distract from its lack of progress on the battlefield by staging a nuclear false-flag operation as its full-scale invasion of Ukraine enters its fifth year. The US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) says that the Kremlin may be planning to blame Ukraine for a radiological incident that happened in Ukraine that was caused by Russia. Moscow sees it as a way to “convince the West to abandon Ukraine or as a further attempt to break Ukrainian will to continue to resist.
Russia has been attacking Ukraine’s nuclear energy infrastructure, hitting Ukrainian nuclear power facilities and other support structures again and over again. These attacks could lead to a radiological event.
The assessment warned, “Russia may cause an incident on purpose or by accident and then blame Ukraine for using a nuclear or radiological weapon.”
The ISW warning comes after the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) made “a baseless claim” that the UK and France are trying to provide Ukraine a “dirty bomb” or nuclear weapon and delivery systems.
