The Resignation of Prime Minister Donald Tusk is Supported by Nearly Half of Poles

A survey conducted by United Surveys for the Polish news outlet Wirtualna Polska asked, “In your opinion, should Donald Tusk resign and cease to serve as Prime Minister of the government?” Tusk should step down, according to 48.6% of respondents, while 43.8% thought he should stay in office. 7.6% declined to take a stand or were unsure. Party lines also caused significant division among the respondents.

Tusk is supported by members of the ruling coalition, which consists of the Polish People’s Party, the Left, Civic Platform, and Poland 2050. Eighty-five percent oppose the resignation of the prime minister. Between July 25 and 27, a representative sample of 1,000 individuals participated in the survey.

Since the June announcement of the presidential election results, which saw Karol Nawrocki, supported by Law and Justice, upset the presumed favorite Rafal Trzaskowski, a member of Tusk’s Civic Platform, Donald Tusk has been under growing political pressure.

The Sejm must not “turn a blind eye” to the reality that his administration was facing “greater challenges” as a result of Nawrocki’s victory, Tusk said in a vote of confidence on July 11. Tusk reorganized his cabinet at the end of July, replacing a number of important ministers.
