As he defended America’s broadcast regulator in a dispute over ABC host Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension, US President Donald Trump has suggested that some TV networks should have their licenses “taken away.
The Disney-owned network said Wednesday night that it was removing the comedian from the air “indefinitely” due to criticism of his comments on the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk last week.
Kimmel seemed to imply on Monday that the culprit was a Maga Republican, despite Utah investigators claiming the alleged shooter was “indoctrinated with leftist ideology. After the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) threatened to take action over Jimmy Kimmel’s comments, ABC removed Jimmy Kimmel Live! from the air.
As he returned from a state visit to the UK on Thursday, Trump discussed the matter with reporters on Air Force One. I have read someplace that the networks were 97% against me, again, 97% negative, and yet I won and easily, all seven swing states [in last year’s election],” stated the president.
They only offer me negative news and notoriety. They’re getting a license, after all. Perhaps their license ought to be revoked, in my opinion. The “Maga gang” was “desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them” to “score political points from it,” according to Kimmel, 57, in his Monday monologue.
