Trump is Asked by the Danish PM to Stop Making Threats Against Greenland

Donald Trump has been instructed by Denmark’s prime minister to “stop the threats” of annexing Greenland. Mette Frederiksen stated that “it makes absolutely no sense to talk about the need for the United States to take over Greenland” , stating that “The US has no right to annex any of the three nations in the Danish kingdom.

Her comments follow the tweeting of a map of Greenland in the colours of the American flag with the words “SOON” by Katie Miller, the wife of Stephen Miller, one of Trump’s advisors. Citing Greenland’s strategic location and resource richness, Trump has frequently suggested that the United States might annex it. Frederiksen claimed to be speaking “very directly” to the United States in her message, published on the Danish government’s official website.

She claimed that, because Denmark was a NATO member, Greenland was protected by the alliance’s security pledge. She said that Denmark has increased its expenditure in Arctic security and that it already had a defence deal with the US that allowed it access to Greenland.

Therefore, I would strongly advise the United States to cease threatening a historically close partner as well as another nation and people who have made it quite evident that they are not for sale,” she stated.
