Donald Trump appears to have loosened his intentions after making the shocking declaration earlier this week that he would impose 100% tariffs on films produced outside of the US. Perhaps.
“The movie industry in America is dying a swift death,” Trump once tweeted. To entice our studios and filmmakers to leave the United States, other nations are providing a variety of incentives. Many parts of the United States, including Hollywood, are in ruins. This poses a threat to national security since it is the result of coordinated efforts by other nations. It is propaganda and messaging on top of everything else.
By stating at the White House, “I’m not looking to hurt the industry, I want to help the industry,” Trump appears to be moderating his stance. We will thus meet with the industry. We’re all about jobs, so I want to ensure they’re satisfied.
White House Deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai informed reporters that “no final decision on foreign film tariffs has been made,” according to CNBC. “The Administration is looking at every possibility to fulfil President Trump’s directive to protect our nation’s economic and national security while making Hollywood Great Again,” Desai said.
