In addition to threatening Russia with high tariffs if an agreement to halt the war is not reached within 50 days, US President Donald Trump has said that the US will deliver “top-of-the-line weapons” to Ukraine through NATO nations.
Trump stated, “We want to make sure Ukraine can do what it wants to do,” after meeting with Mark Rutte, the head of NATO, in Washington. According to Rutte, the United States has agreed to “massively supply Ukraine with what is necessary through Nato” and the Europeans will pay for it.
According to Trump, the US would subsequently provide replacements for the Patriot air defence systems that European nations will transfer to Kyiv. Ukraine depends on these systems to fend off Russia’s lethal airstrikes.
The president did, however, declare that billions of dollars’ worth of “top-of-the-line weapons” will be “quickly distributed to the battlefield” in backing Ukraine. After his meeting with Rutte, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commended Trump for his “willingness to support Ukraine and to continue working together to stop the killings and establish a lasting and just peace” in a statement posted on X.
Together with the President, they spoke about the ways we might improve individual protection against Russian strikes and fortify our positions. In order to bring about peace, we are prepared to work as efficiently as possible,” he declared.
