Following what Governor Tim Walz described as a “act of targeted political violence” on Saturday morning that resulted in the targeting and murder of two state senators, a manhunt is currently underway in Minnesota.
The deaths of Democrat Melissa Hortman, 55, and her spouse occurred in Brooklyn Park, a community close to Minneapolis. In a separate incident, 60-year-old Democrat John Hoffman and his wife were shot many times at their house some 15 kilometres (nine miles) distant. He is stable and no longer undergoing surgery.
The individual who police said was posing as an officer is being sought. He is identified as Vance Luther Boelter, 57, and information leading to his apprehension is being sought in exchange for a $50,000 prize.
On Saturday night, there were few local signs of the suspect’s manhunt and a low-key police presence along the calm roads around the location in Brooklyn Park, a suburb. Although investigators are currently looking into whether Boelter knew either lawmaker, he worked on the state’s workforce development board alongside Hoffman, a state senator.
According to authorities, he used a phoney badge and outfit to enter the victims’ houses, and he even drove a car that looked like a police cruiser with emergency lights. The first emergency contact was made at 2:00 local time regarding the situation involving state senator Hoffman and his spouse.
