A US aircraft carrier shot down an Iranian drone that “aggressively approached” the ship in the Arabian Sea on Tuesday. Hours later, two gunboats from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps threatened to board and take over a US-flagged tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a US military spokesman. The two events happened only days before US and Iranian officials are set to meet on Friday for talks to avoid a military conflict.
According to Captain Tim Hawkins, a spokesman for US Central Command, US forces shot down an Iranian drone on Tuesday as it “aggressively approached” the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, which was sailing through the Arabian Sea about 500 miles from Iran’s southern coast.
Hawkins added, “The Iranian drone kept flying toward the ship even though US forces in international waters took steps to calm things down. He added that an F-35C fighter jet from the Lincoln fired down the drone to keep the carrier and its crew safe.Hawkins added, “No American service members were hurt and no U.S. equipment was damaged.
