Why AI is Being Taught in India’s Rural Areas

The town of Virudhunagar in southeast India is home to temples that are thousands of years old. However, the newest technology, artificial intelligence, is being developed not far from those historic locations. Mohan Kumar is one among them.

AI annotation is what I do. I gather information from multiple sources, label it, and teach AI models to identify and anticipate objects. The models eventually become semi-supervised and capable of independent decision-making,” he explains.

India has long been a hub for outsourced IT assistance, with major centers for this type of business including Bangalore and Chennai. However, companies have been relocating their operations to much more remote locations in recent years due to lower labor and space expenses.

Mr. Kumar is employed with Desicrew. It was a pioneer in cloud farming when it was founded in 2005. The chief executive of Desicrew, Mannivannan J K, says, We realized that we could bring jobs to where people already live, rather than forcing them to migrate to cities in search of jobs.”

Opportunities have been concentrated in urban areas for too long, putting young people in rural areas behind. Our goal has always been to establish top-notch careers closer to home while demonstrating that high-caliber work can be produced remotely.
