Jack Lang, who used to be France’s Culture Minister, stepped down as president of the Arab World Institute on Saturday. This happened when it came to light that he had financial ties to Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender who died in 2019.
Authorities said that Lang and his daughter Caroline’s resignation came after France’s financial prosecutor started an investigation into them on suspicion of “aggravated tax fraud laundering.” The US Department of Justice revealed data on January 30 that showed Lang’s name over 600 times. They showed messages between the two men from 2012 until Epstein’s death in detention in 2019.
Caroline Lang, who used to be a high-ranking official at Warner Bros. France, quit her job as managing director of France’s Independent Producer Syndicate on Monday when records showed her business ties to Epstein.
Epstein’s will said that she would get €5 million, but she says she never got any money. French media said that the preliminary investigation started when US records showed that Lang and Epstein had been in touch with each other for years and had money ties. Woody Allen and his partner Soon-Yi Previn introduced Caroline Lang and her father to Epstein in 2012, she claimed the investigative news site Mediapart.
