Ofcom has made “urgent contact” with Elon Musk’s business xAI in response to accusations that its AI tool Grok can be used to create “sexualised images of children” and undress women. According to a regulator representative, the agency is also investigating reports that Grok has been producing “undressed images” of people.
The BBC has noticed multiple instances on the social media platform X of users requesting that the chatbot change genuine photographs to make women appear in bikinis without their agreement, as well as place them in sexual positions. X has yet to react to a request for comment. On Sunday, it warned users not to use Grok to create illicit materials, particularly child sexual abuse material.
Elon Musk also stated that anyone who orders the AI to make unlawful content will face the same punishments as if they uploaded it themselves. XAI’s acceptable use policy prohibits “depicting likenesses of persons in a pornographic manner,” however, users have used Grok to digitally nude others without their permission. Grok members on X have digitally de-clothed images of Catherine, Princess of Wales, among many others.
