According to authorities, Russia began launching massive drone and missile attacks on Ukraine’s capital and other regions early on Friday. Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, said the attacks killed at least three persons and injured 49 others.
The airstrikes targeted the Ternopil area in the northwest of the nation, the city of Lutsk, and Kyiv. According to Russia’s defence ministry, the attacks were carried out in retaliation for “terrorist acts by the Kyiv regime” and specifically targeted military installations.
The military “launched a massive strike with high-precision long-range air, sea, and ground-based weapons, as well as attack drones” overnight, according to the ministry. Following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s warning to US President Donald Trump that he will retaliate for Ukraine’s recent attacks on Russian airbases, the attack took place.
Zelensky wrote on X on Friday that “now is exactly the moment when America, Europe, and everyone around the world can stop this war together by pressuring Russia. In passing, he alluded to Trump’s seeming resistance to applying pressure on Russia. It is complicity and accountability if someone is not exerting pressure and is allowing the war to continue taking lives,” Zelensky stated. We must act decisively.
