In Australia, a Shark Attack Killed a Woman

A shark attacked a lady and a man as they were swimming at a rural beach in the Australian state of New South Wales, killing the woman and critically injuring the guy. According to police, the male, who was also thought to be in his 20s, was taken to a hospital in Newcastle in critical condition, while the woman, who was said to be in her 20s, died at the site.

Early on Thursday morning local time, paramedics were rushed to Kylies Beach in Crowdy Bay National Park, around 300 kilometers north of Sydney, according to authorities. Authorities commended a bystander who “potentially saved his life” by applying a temporary tourniquet to the man’s leg prior to the arrival of paramedics.

Josh Smyth, the superintendent of NSW Ambulance, told reporters, “The bravery of some bystanders in this situation is amazing. To put yourself out there is extraordinary and clearly it did give us time to get to that male patient.

Police were working with specialists from the Department of Primary Industries to identify the type of shark that was involved, and the beach has since been blocked. Additionally, “smart” drumlines were being used, which entice sharks with baited hooks so they may be tagged and rereleased.
