Formerly known as Mediaset, MFE, the largest media conglomerate in Italy, has entered the protracted conflict over Warner Bros. MFE, which was founded by the late Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, stated that it supports Paramount’s acquisition offer over Netflix’s.
In an unexpected move this week, Paramount said that it was making an alternative acquisition offer directly to Warner shareholders following news of a merger between Netflix and Warner Bros. in November. MFE CEO Pier Silvio Berlusconi stated, “It’s a truly significant case, at a news conference late on Wednesday night at MFE’s offices outside Milan.
Regarding the bidding war, Berlusconi stated, “It’s a question of competition, not ideology.” “Not a political argument, but a mathematical one. In any event, I consider this activity to be very American and to have little effect overseas.
In the 1980s, the senior Berlusconi established Mediaset as the primary private television network, widely regarded as a symbol of consolidated media and political power and a very well-liked commercial broadcaster in Italy. Its publications, Studio Aperto and TGCom24, frequently pushed right-wing rhetoric and pro-Berlusconi politics. After its Italian and Spanish divisions merged in 2021, Mediaset was reorganized into MFE, or Media for Europe, a pan-European holding corporation registered in the Netherlands.
