Trump Confirmed That he Would Meet with Xi Jinping in May as The Iran War Forces Postpone

After postponing the historic visit due to the US-Israel conflict with Iran, US President Donald Trump has announced that he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in China on May 14–15. This would be the US president’s first trip to China in almost a decade.

Trump posted on Truth Social on Wednesday that authorities are “finalizing preparations for these Historic Visits” and that he will also host Xi in Washington, DC, later this year. The dates of Trump’s visit were confirmed by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who informed reporters that President Xi had acknowledged and approved the request to reschedule the trip. At a press conference on Wednesday, Leavitt stated, “President Xi realized how crucial it is for the president to be here throughout these combat operations right now.

Although Beijing usually does not disclose Xi’s schedule so far in advance, Beijing has not responded to the dates Trump specified. Earlier this month, China’s foreign ministry announced that it was in negotiations with Washington on Trump’s visitation schedule.

After the US and Israel launched extensive strikes on Iran last month, murdering the country’s supreme commander, the trip, which was initially scheduled for March 31, was postponed. A global fuel crisis resulted from Iran’s attack on Israel and US-allied nations in the Gulf and its effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passageway for the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas.
