As negotiations to fund the department broke down on Capitol Hill, President Donald Trump ordered his newly appointed head of the Department of Homeland Security to quickly compensate Transportation Security Administration agents in an effort to shorten airport queues.
Trump stated on his Truth Social platform, “I am going to sign an order instructing the Secretary of Homeland Security, Markwayne Mullin, to immediately pay our TSA Agents in order to address this Emergency Situation and to quickly stop the Democrat Chaos at the Airports.”
The president said on Thursday night that he was authorizing the payment, indicating that the talks had reached a deadlock despite the intense efforts of a bipartisan group of senior senators to reach a consensus.
According to two people familiar with the plans, Trump intends to use funds from the comprehensive legislation known as the “One Big, Beautiful Bill” that he signed last year to compensate TSA employees. However, one individual warned that things could change because his senior aides are still trying to figure out how to pay the TSA employees who are about to miss their second full payday.
