A Possible Viral Outbreak on an Atlantic Cruise Ship Claimed three Lives

The World Health Organization (WHO) informed the BBC that three individuals had perished following a suspected hantavirus outbreak on a cruise ship traveling in the Atlantic Ocean. According to the report, five further suspected cases of Hantavirus are being investigated, while one case has been verified. According to reports, one British citizen is in critical condition.

The MV Hondius cruise ship, which was sailing from Argentina to Cape Verde, was the location of the epidemic. Hantavirus infections are typically associated with environmental exposure, such as coming into contact with the urine or feces of infected rats, although they can occasionally pass from person to person and cause serious respiratory illness.

The BBC was previously informed by South Africa’s health ministry spokesperson, Foster Mohale, that at least two individuals had perished. Oceanwide Expeditions, a Dutch travel operator, operates the MV Hondius. The Oceanwide Expeditions website states that the MV Hondius left Ushuaia, Argentina, on March 20 and was scheduled to arrive in Cape Verde on May 4.
