After two Jewish men were stabbed in London in what authorities called a terrorist attack, a man has been charged with attempted murder. On Wednesday, two men, ages 76 and 34, were stabbed in Golders Green, north London.
In connection with the assault, Essa Suleiman was charged on Friday morning with two charges of attempted murder and one count of possessing a bladed object in a public area, according to police.
The 45-year-old Camberwell resident of south London was also charged with attempted murder in relation to another incident that occurred that day, a few miles south of Tower Bridge.
He is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday after being placed under remand in detention.
Following the stabbing, both Golders Green attack victims received medical attention in a hospital. The 76-year-old is still there in stable health, but the 34-year-old has already been freed, according to the police.
A counterterrorism investigation is still underway, according to police, who classified the attack as a terrorist incident. The Jewish community in London is experiencing increased concern as a result of a series of attacks that have targeted synagogues and other social buildings.
