At a conference Thursday in Paris, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President Donald Trump’s foreign envoy Steve Witkoff conducted high-level discussions with Ukrainian and European officials with the goal of strengthening Ukraine’s defences against Russia’s relentless assault.
Following the talks, an Elysée source reported that Ukrainian and US officials had “excellent exchange” with their counterparts in Britain, France, and Germany, with the Paris sessions offering “a powerful strategic opportunity. According to the source, Ukraine and the three European nations emphasised how much they support Trump’s attempts to stop the war quickly.
According to the source, further sessions in the similar style would be held in London the following week. Tammy Bruce, a representative for the State Department, would not confirm if Rubio will be present for the talks. In a social media post, French President Emmanuel Macron described Thursday’s negotiations as “a day of diplomatic mobilisation.”
We had a good and pleasant conversation today about how to bring about a ceasefire as well as a full-scale, sustainable peace,” Macron stated. In a social media message, Zelensky commended Macron for his leadership and the work done in Paris by the participating nations’ officials. It is critical that we listen to one another, clarify and improve our stances, and strive for the true security of Ukraine and all of Europe,” he stated.
