Zelensky Claims That a Massive Russian Missile and Drone Attack Killed Five People

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Russia launched heavy missile and drone attacks overnight in Ukraine, killing five people and leaving tens of thousands without electricity. As assaults primarily targeted the western part of Lviv, a hit in the village of Lapaivka killed four members of one family, including a 15-year-old girl.

The Polish military confirmed that Poland, Ukraine’s neighbor, scrambled fighter jets to protect Polish airspace. Additionally, Allied NATO aircraft were used. Russia’s defense ministry claimed to have executed a “massive” strike against targets related to Ukrainian infrastructure and military capabilities.

In Zaporizhzhia, one individual also lost their life. According to Zelensky, Russia launched over 500 assault drones and more than 50 missiles. The aggregate number was 549, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. Strikes in Lviv lasted for several hours, causing the suspension of public transportation and the cutting off of electricity.

The regional director of Lviv, Maksym Kozytskyi, described the strike as the biggest to hit the area since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. According to him, there were about 163 drones and missiles in the region. In the strike that murdered their relatives in Lapaivka, two neighbors and another family member were hurt.
