Russia launched ballistic missiles at Ukraine’s capital Kyiv early Tuesday, according to local authorities, following a ceasefire in strikes on key towns and infrastructure agreed upon by Russia and the United States while Ukraine grapples with plunging winter temperatures.
Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed last week to halt attacks on major Ukrainian cities and infrastructure until Sunday, citing a “personal request” from US President Donald Trump, according to the Kremlin.
The hiatus followed trilateral negotiations between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States in Abu Dhabi, the first since Moscow’s invasion in February 2022. Several multi-story residential buildings were destroyed, according to reports, Tymur Tkachenko, the director of Kyiv’s military administration, stated on Telegram.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Dnipro, in eastern Ukraine, was also under attack by ballistic missiles. While there have been no recorded strikes on energy plants or large cities since last Thursday, Ukrainian authorities say Russia has continued to strike supply channels and transportation infrastructure, with terrible consequences.
The Kremlin has confirmed that the next round of trilateral discussions between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States, aimed at ending the conflict in Ukraine, will take place in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday and Thursday.
