Israel and the UAE Find Common Cause as the Iran War Splits old Middle Eastern Ties

In practically any other country, the response would have been emphatic no. However, when the United Arab Emirates came under constant Iranian attack during the US-Israeli conflict in Tehran, Israel decided to deploy one of its most sensitive defense systems.

Following a phone discussion with President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu covertly ordered the Israeli military to deliver an Iron Dome interceptor battery – along with soldiers to operate it – to the UAE, demonstrating how far relations had progressed.

As the UAE isolates itself from its traditional friends over their stance on the Iran conflict, Israel sees an unparalleled chance to enhance its connections, according to many Israeli officials.The UAE, which became the first Arab nation in 26 years to repair relations with Israel under the Abraham Accords in 2020, has stated that the Iran war may redefine its regional alliances, noting discontent among some of its closest Arab partners. According to officials, Abu Dhabi would instead strengthen ties with Israel and countries that helped it during the war, such as France, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

Amid the limited positive developments to emerge from the Iran war, this relationship (with Abu Dhabi) stands out as ‘good news,'” an Israeli insider with close knowledge of contacts with the UAE told CNN. “Ties have advanced to a new level, including at the leadership level.
