After Three People are Evacuated, a Cruise Ship Affected by the Hantavirus Departs Cape Verde

Following the medical evacuation of three passengers, a Dutch cruise ship affected by a hantavirus outbreak has departed Cape Verde. According to officials, the MV Hondius transferred a 56-year-old British male, a 41-year-old Dutch crew member, and a 65-year-old German national to the Netherlands for medical care.

According to the cruise ship’s operator, Oceanwide Expeditions, two of the three evacuated passengers have reached a hospital in the Netherlands for treatment, while the third was on a delayed evacuation aircraft.

With 146 passengers, the ship has set out on a three-day voyage to the Canary Islands. Since the ship sailed from Argentina a month ago, three passengers have passed away. One of the dead had the virus, according to officials, while the other two deaths are being looked into.

Two of the three evacuees are exhibiting symptoms, but none of them have tested positive for the hantavirus thus far. The BBC eventually realized that Spain’s health minister’s earlier claim that the British man was a doctor was untrue. One of the evacuees, a German passenger, was “closely associated” with a German woman who perished on the ship on May 2, according to Oceanwide Expeditions.
