Iran claims that a US proposal to end the war is “still being considered” in response to rumors that an agreement between the two parties may be near. The White House thinks it may be nearing a 14-point memorandum of agreement with Iran, according to a Wednesday report from US news source Axios.
A spokeswoman for the foreign ministry stated that Tehran would discuss its opinions of a US plan with Pakistani mediators, while a senior member of Iran’s parliament derided it as a “wish list”. Pakistan is “endeavouring to convert this ceasefire into a permanent end to this war,” according to the country’s foreign minister. According to President Donald Trump, the US has had “very good talks with Iran in the last 24 hours” and a deal might be reached.
According to Axios’ source, the memo is a one-page, fourteen-point document that may serve as a foundation for more in-depth nuclear talks. Restoring unrestricted transit via the Strait of Hormuz, lifting sanctions, and suspending Iranian nuclear enrichment are some of the provisions it lists.
Two US officials and two other, unidentified people are cited as having been briefed on the issues. Many of the terms outlined in the memo, according to these individuals, would depend on reaching a final agreement.
