According to a Story, South Korean Fighter Planes Collided Because the Pilots were Snapping Pictures

The pilots were shooting photos and films when two fighter planes collided in midair in 2021, according to South Korean police. According to Seoul’s Board of Audit and Inspection, the event happened in the central city of Daegu when the aircraft were on a flight mission.

The collision damaged the aircraft, costing the military 880 million won ($596,000; £440,500) in repairs, although the pilots were unharmed. An 88 million won fine was imposed on one of the pilots, who is no longer in the military.

The pilot intended to snap pictures to mark his final trip with his military unit, which led to the event. In a report released on Wednesday, the audit board stated that photographing important flights was “a widespread practice among pilots at the time.

According to the investigation, the pilot had stated in a briefing prior to the flight that he intended to do so. Throughout the mission, he flew the wingman aircraft and followed the lead aircraft. He began using his own cell phone to take photos as they flew back to their base.
