Ahead of US-Ukrainian talks in Saudi Arabia, the country’s top diplomat has expressed optimism about Ukraine’s proposal for a partial ceasefire to settle the three-year conflict with Russia. I’m not saying that alone is enough, but it’s the kind of concession you would need to see in order to end the conflict,” U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated Monday.
According to a Ukrainian official who spoke to AFP, Kyiv is anticipated to suggest an air and naval truce with Russia during the talks on Tuesday. A temporary ceasefire was earlier rejected by Russia, which claimed it was an effort to buy time and stop Ukraine’s military collapse.
Although he is not anticipated to participate formally in the negotiations between his nation and the United States, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Saudi Arabia on Monday to meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Zelensky’s head of office, Andriy Yermak, the nation’s national security adviser, and a number of foreign and defense ministers will represent Ukraine. Rubio will represent the US delegation alongside US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.
