Cuba Alleges That Four People Were Shot and Killed on a US-Registered Speedboat by Border Guards

Cuba’s government reported that border guards shot and killed four persons who were in Cuban seas on a US-registered speedboat. According to a statement from Cuba’s interior ministry, the people aboard the speedboat shot at a coast guard boat that came close to them.

The event happened near an island on Cuba’s northern coast and hurt six more guests. The Cuban government has started an investigation to “clarify” what happened, but it is not known who was on board the ship or what it was doing in the area.

The ministry said in a statement on X that the Florida-registered boat, with the registration number FL7726SH, was spotted near Cayo Falcones in the central Villa Clara province of Cuba on Wednesday morning.

The statement added that “the crew of the violating speedboat opened fire” when a Cuban boat with five personnel of the ministry’s border guard approached the vessel to identify it. The Cuban commander was hurt.As of the time of this report, four attackers on the foreign ship had died and six more had been hurt as a result of the fight.
